Island News is published by Island Press, a division of Hearst Magazines, Inc. The first issue was published on November. 24, 1931. The title changed to the Stroller’s Weekly, later revised to become the Island News Professional, and Douglas Island News, later edited by H. B. Selby & E. S. Stevens. The name was in use until March 3, 1933, when the final edition was published.
Island News Professional brought to Alaska numerous new writers who wrote articles that dealt with the business of the islands and surrounding areas. The magazine also featured travel and news articles and mining reports as well as an article on Kenai Fjords National Park and an island weather report. A calendar of the cultural life of the island, a wildlife and mining report were also included. Another important addition was a local obituary. Island News Professional was primarily an online magazine, but it also featured business-oriented pages. The pages were split into two sections the Commercial Business section focused on the owners of businesses and their companies; and the Employment and Training Section, that kept readers informed of local job openings. The business section was designed to offer advertisements and information of jobs that were available. The employment section included an ad in the classified section for each type of job available, such as construction, fishing, general contracting,, landscaping, or any other trade. There are also lists of employers looking for workers and a phone directory with the names and numbers of companies.
The Kenai Peninsula News was published by Island News Digest, a magazine that featured local content. It was mainly focused on the Kenai Peninsula and reported on everything from travel and tourism to arts and culture. Unlike the Peninsula News, which was mostly focused on business it was the Kenai Digest was entirely designed to be a service that was aimed at consumers. It included information about family activities, education and culture and local government.
Other subjects included health, culture, education, religion, labor, technology business owners, television and radio production. There was plenty of news on the Peninsula and Kenai Peninsula.
