Additionally, IRI promotes inclusive policies as well as gender equity and equal representation in all areas.

The United Nations established a Democracy Cohort for Women in the wake of these achievements. This cohort will be focused on women’s political empowerment. The Democracy Cohort will be working closely with women leaders to assist them in implementing reforms and measuring the progress they have made towards achieving their commitments. This cohort has been approved by the United Nations. They will continue to collaborate closely throughout the Summit for Democracy’s Year of Action.

The number of women elected to China’s legislature has decreased from 25 percent to 10.9 percent in 2018 and 1975. In addition, the proportion of female city and county mayors and town directors dropped to below 10 percent in 2002.
